Causes and Treatments of Hair Loss

There are several causes of hair loss, some of which result in male or female balding. Therefore, different methods may be used to treat the condition.

Causes by Gender

Causes of hair loss are being categorized here by gender. This accounts for hormonal phases that both men and women experience in their lifetimes that lead to thinning or balding.

Here is a description of causes by gender:

In Men-The main cause of male pattern baldness is usually an excess of production of DHT chemicals that usually happens when a man ages. Premature hair loss is usually genetic, from either the mother’s or father’s site of the family. However, note that in either case hair loss is believed to be genetic.

There are also other reasons why men might lose hair as well. For instance, they might have just started taking a particular medication that thins out their scalp. Either that or perhaps it was a result of a cancer treatment or even the cancer itself. Thyroid condition is also a common cause of male balding.

In Women-Balding in women is slightly different than it is for males, although it may sometimes happen for the same reasons. For instance, genetic disposition for secretion of too much DHT, even sometimes at a young age may cause it. Furthermore, it could also be the result of taking certain medications or because of cancer treatments.

The major difference between men and women, however, is that sometimes balding in women is a result of major hormonal changes during pregnancy. Other changes during menopause also account for some differences between men and women.

Treatment

Numerous types of treatments for correcting different types of balding are available. For instance, there is hair replacement surgery for those who want quick results they cannot achieve any other way.

There also are prescription medications that help moisturize the scalp while inhibiting excess production of DHT. Natural herbal supplements are often taken for a similar reason.

In some cases, a trans-dermal scalp topical cream is applied. It depends upon the personal preference of the individual or the type or reason the hair loss occurs.

You should find out why you are losing hair from your scalp before you seek treatment. The reason why is that not all supplements or medications will help in every case. For instance, some herbal solutions might only work for baldness in the back of the head and not for balding fronts.

Furthermore, if you know that the hair loss is a side effect of any other medication or supplement you are using that you should find that out first. There is a chance the problem could be corrected by just finding a different source of treatment (for whatever it is you are currently being treated).
